Yard waste and Christmas trees are picked up on a different collection schedule than rubbish & recycling.
Per State law, hazardous waste cannot be put in your rubbish cart. Items such as motor oil, pesticides, fluorescent light bulbs, stains and varnishes must be disposed of properly.
Residents have access to the landfill located on Rt 31 south of Rt 2. Recycling permits and Landfill permits are available at the Health Department at City Hall. Apply for permits on-line by

Burning of brush and branches is allowed in Fitchburg with a burn permit. The burn season is open from January 15 to May 1st. Residents can apply for or renew a burn permit online.
